The Off-Highway Truck is used in a quarry to haul rock or other types of minerals like granite or limestone. Trucks are loaded with material, which is transported to either a crusher, where it is unloaded and crushed into smaller pieces, or taken to a dump area where it is unloaded. A quarry is considered a surface mining operation (aka open-pit mining) from which stone, rock, sand, gravel or other minerals are extracted from the land.

Operators must know good techniques and understand how the trucks work to reach optimum capacity with every truck load and obtain efficient haul cycle times. Both are integral to achieving the most production out of a mine operation. Delays and operator efficiency can impact cycle times and affect overall production significantly.
